Can someone please explain to me the logic behind running in the street with the cars and other assorted traffic when there is a perfectly good sidewalk a foot and a half away? Lots of runners do it, so there must be a reason, but I don’t get it.
Of course, I never run anywhere if I can help it, so I may not have the proper mindset.

I wouldn't even run from danger, but my husband has informed me that asphalt is less traumatic to the joints than cement.
I don't know if I believe that. I think runners might just want to piss me off.
i'll echo the ashphalt v. pavement arguement. but it's still not smart to run in a road. roads are for CARS!
;)
Running? What's that? The only running I do is in circles chasing my 2 1/2 year old!
I run, and have been known to run on the road for two reasons:
1. Sidewalks have a habit of abruptly ending, causing me to have to suddenly veer off into the road
2. Sidewalks are angled for runoff, and if you run on them too long, one of your legs hurts.
In my defense, though, I run in a quiet residential neighbourhood at 5 a.m....not much traffic.
runners are basically crazy, so this fits their behaviour patterns ....
I think you'd have to be insane to run - well I would anyway, so maybe that explains it. They're all nuts :)
Sounds like an invitation to play the old "aim for pedetrians" game to me!
God only gave me so many heartbeats and sure as heck ain't gonna waste them by running!
