Hello Internet. I’m in search of a new car insurance company, and I want to know which company you use. I’ve had USAA for almost 20 years now, but they’ve decided to screw me, big time, and I’m not going to put up with it. John and I have one car – a six year old Honda Civic. They want to charge me $221 per month for a car that is worth, at most, $10,000. This is the same car that they used to charge me $87 per month to insure. Then John and I each got a speeding ticket, and I had an accident so minor that I didn’t even write about it here. Funny though, every other insurance company I call offers me a rate that is much, much lower. I think that clearly demonstrates that they don’t have to charge me such a high rate to cover their risk. Progressive gave me the lowest quote, but I think I feel the best about GEICO.
My mom has terrified me with dire predictions about how leaving USAA will be a disaster and no other insurance company is as good. Surely there are other good insurance companies out there. Have a company you love? Or one you hate? Please share your story with me.

Back when I had a car, I used Progressive for insurance. I was with them for 5 years, never had a problem with them, and the one time I had a claim they had excellent service. I would definitely recommend them.
I've used State Farm since I was 16 years old. I love them. When I got married, we compared Bob's rates to my rates and State Farm came out looking so much better. They have independent agents and I have found them to be speedy in response whenever I have needed them. After 9/11 rates went up for a bit but have been steadily coming down again. Love. Them.
American Family. I have a long-time relationship with my agent - and when he sold, the man who bought it has yet to dissapoint. We have everything with them - home, life, car etc. They may not have the greatest rates, but I feel safe and taken care of and that is worth a lot to me.
GEICO sucks ass. They are great until you have an actual claim. Then they dick you around in all kinds of ways, refuse to pay for OEM parts, decide you were at fault without notifying you, etc. Much happier with Progressive.
I've used State Farm for years and years. They always provided excellent service through the years. As my kids became teenagers and started to drive, my agent worked with us to keep the premium down as much as possible. Claim service and payments have been exceptional.
State Farm. You actually get to deal with real, local people with real, local offices. It's handy.
I love our Progressive auto insurance. I hit a car in my company parking lot the day I went on bedrest and they were diligent in tracking down the guy whose car I hit and they didn't raise my rates at all.
